Speaking at the meeting, Labour Party National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, described Hajja Konto’s nomination as a reflection of the party’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice.

According to Usman, the selection of a woman as the party’s vice presidential candidate aligns with the Labour Party’s “Mama, Papa, Pikin” philosophy, which she said represents the party’s inclusive ideals. She added that the Labour Party is the only major political party in the 2027 presidential race to nominate a woman for such a prominent position on its presidential ticket.

The National Chairman expressed confidence that Hajja Konto’s professional background, humanitarian work, and leadership experience would complement the presidential candidacy of Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, describing the pair as well-positioned to provide effective governance if elected in 2027.

Senator Usman also praised Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, describing him as the Labour Party’s “poster child” and citing his administration’s recently enacted social welfare legislation for senior citizens as an example of people-oriented governance. She urged Nigerians seeking improved governance to support the Labour Party in future elections.

The party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, welcomed the choice of Hajja Konto as his running mate, describing her as humble, dependable, and highly experienced. He emphasized the importance of women’s participation in governance, stating that excluding women from leadership is detrimental to national development.

Okereke commended Hajja Konto’s work as a development advocate and public health expert, expressing confidence that their combined experience and shared vision would benefit Nigeria. He also praised Senator Nenadi Usman for her leadership and role in the emergence of the party’s vice presidential candidate.

In her remarks, Hajja Bintu Konto thanked the Labour Party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in her. She described Senator Nenadi Usman as an inspiring leader committed to justice and national service.

Konto pledged to dedicate herself fully to national service if elected Vice President in 2027. She reflected on her humanitarian work during the early years of the Boko Haram insurgency, recalling that despite losing her husband to the conflict, she continued providing assistance to affected communities across Northern Nigeria.

She said the experience gained from years of humanitarian service would guide her approach to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and implementing people-centred policies.

The Labour Party vice presidential candidate also stated that she joined the party because she believes it offers a clear vision and practical roadmap for addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges and rebuilding the country.

The interactive session concluded with party leaders reaffirming their unity and commitment to presenting what they described as a competent, compassionate, and transformational leadership team ahead of the 2027 general election.
