African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
Sowore argued that Adeleke’s decision to support Tinubu could have consequences beyond the next presidential election, accusing the two political families of prioritising their interests over the wider concerns of Nigerians.
Reacting to Adeleke’s endorsement in a post on his verified X account, Sowore alleged that the move was aimed at protecting the political interests of the Adeleke and Tinubu families.
“At the end of the day, the Adelekes and the Tinubus are looking out for their own personal and political interests, watching each other’s backs, protecting their political fortunes, and safeguarding their loot,” Sowore wrote.
The activist also linked his criticism to the wider political developments surrounding the Osun governorship election, which saw Adeleke secure a second term in office.
The controversy is significant because Adeleke belongs to the Accord Party, while Tinubu is seeking re-election under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor’s decision to endorse a presidential candidate outside his party has therefore attracted considerable attention as political realignments ahead of 2027 intensify.
Sowore’s criticism also comes amid his broader opposition to the Tinubu administration and his own preparations for the 2027 presidential contest. His AAC has positioned itself as an alternative to the established political parties.
The Osun election has further intensified political discussions about alliances, voter mobilisation and the influence of prominent political families in the South-West. Adeleke’s victory over APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji has also prompted competing interpretations of the electorate’s priorities and the strength of opposition politics.
However, Sowore’s allegations represent his political assessment and have not established evidence of an agreement between the Adeleke and Tinubu families. Adeleke’s camp has separately denied suggestions that his endorsement of Tinubu was based on a political pact.
As Nigeria moves toward the 2027 elections, political endorsements and emerging alliances are expected to remain major issues, particularly as parties and candidates position themselves for a highly competitive presidential contest.
