2027 Election: Peter Obi Gains High-Profile Endorsement as Former Ondo First Lady Declares Support

Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has thrown her weight behind the presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election, describing her position as unequivocal and uncompromising.

Speaking on the unfolding political realignments ahead of the polls, Anyanwu-Akeredolu declared her “unwavering support” for the former Anambra State governor, insisting it is “Peter Obi or nothing” as Nigerians prepare to choose a new president in 2027.

Her endorsement adds to the growing list of prominent political figures and opinion leaders openly aligning with Obi, whose 2023 presidential run galvanised millions of Nigerians, particularly young voters, under a reform-driven and accountability-focused agenda.

Beyond her support for Obi, the former Ondo First Lady also disclosed her intention to contest the Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) seat in the 2027 elections, signalling a return to frontline partisan politics. Her declaration is expected to reshape political calculations within Imo State and the wider South-East region.

Nigeria is scheduled to hold general elections in 2027 to elect the president and vice president, members of the National Assembly, state governors, and members of state Houses of Assembly. With the election cycle gradually taking shape, endorsements such as Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s are already fuelling debate about emerging alliances and the strength of opposition platforms.

Political observers note that her open support for Peter Obi underscores the persistence of the Obi political movement beyond 2023 and reflects the continued appeal of his message among sections of the political elite and civil society.

As campaigns slowly gather momentum, analysts expect more declarations, endorsements, and defections to define the contours of what is shaping up to be another fiercely contested election season.
