The Labour Party has expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Police for what it described as a swift and professional response in apprehending individuals who allegedly attempted to break into the Party’s National Secretariat on Tuesday night.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Party disclosed that the suspects, described as vandals and miscreants, were arrested following prompt intervention by security operatives. According to the statement, the individuals are currently assisting the police with useful information that may aid in identifying those who sponsored the attempted breach.
The Party reassured members and the general public that calm has been restored at the National Secretariat, noting that normal activities have resumed following the incident.
While commending supporters nationwide for their vigilance, the Labour Party issued a stern warning to what it termed “certain elements of the former leadership,” alleging that some individuals attempted to desecrate the Secretariat under the cover of darkness. The Party declared that it would no longer tolerate acts of internal sabotage or brigandage.
Citing a recent court judgment, the Party maintained that the leadership question has been conclusively settled. It stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has implemented the court’s decision by formally recognising Senator Nenadi Usman as National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as National Secretary of the Labour Party.
“Nigeria is a nation governed by laws, not a banana republic,” the statement read, warning alleged rogue elements within the Party to desist from actions capable of creating confusion and hysteria.
Furthermore, the Party called on law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down other criminal elements allegedly using the Party’s name to mislead and defraud members of the public. It cautioned that it would not condone any form of criminality carried out under its banner, regardless of the status of those involved.
The statement was signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, and dated 11th February 2026.
