NDC unveils timetable for 2027 primaries, fixes presidential primary for May 29

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the commencement of the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for aspirants seeking to contest elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the party disclosed that the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and end on Monday, May 18, 2026.

According to the timetable released by the party, screening and interview of aspirants will hold from Tuesday, May 19, to Thursday, May 21, 2026, while the sale of Nomination Forms will commence immediately after the screening exercise and end on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The party stated that completed nomination forms must be submitted on or before Monday, May 25, 2026, while appeals arising from the screening process will be entertained between May 25 and 26.

NDC further announced that primary elections for various elective offices would take place on Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, while the Presidential Primary Election has been scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, in Abuja.

The party explained that aspirants seeking tickets for State Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants would be conducted at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. Governorship primaries, according to the statement, will be conducted at the local government level.

The NDC also stated that all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s guidelines and code of conduct.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and internal democracy, the party said it would adopt an “open secret ballot” system for its primaries to ensure fairness and credibility.

On the approved fees for nomination forms, the party fixed the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for State House of Assembly aspirants at ₦1 million and ₦1.5 million respectively, while House of Representatives aspirants are to pay ₦2 million and ₦4 million.

Senate aspirants are expected to pay ₦3 million for the Expression of Interest Form and ₦5 million for the Nomination Form. Governorship aspirants will pay ₦10 million and ₦20 million respectively, while presidential aspirants are to pay ₦20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and ₦40 million for the Nomination Form.

The party, however, announced concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities, stating that women would pay 50 per cent of the approved fees, while PWDs would pay 25 per cent across all categories.

The statement was jointly signed by the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and the National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu Esq.
