Labour Party Unveils Hajja Bintu Konto as 2027 Vice Presidential Candidate

ABUJA, Nigeria — July 11, 2026 — The Labour Party has officially unveiled Hajja Bintu Konto as its Vice Presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election, confirming that she will run alongside the party’s presidential flag bearer, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Ken Eluma Asogwa, who said the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the party.
According to the party, the Okereke-Konto ticket reflects its commitment to presenting Nigerians with a leadership team anchored on competence, integrity, inclusiveness, patriotism and proven capacity for public service.
The Labour Party described Hajja Konto as an accomplished public health expert, humanitarian leader and development practitioner with more than three decades of experience in healthcare delivery, humanitarian intervention, community development and stakeholder engagement.
The party highlighted her extensive work in conflict-affected communities across Northern Nigeria, describing her as a respected bridge-builder and consensus mobiliser who has contributed significantly to improving the lives of vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons.
Before her retirement from Catholic Relief Services, Hajja Konto served in several strategic leadership roles, including Community and Government Liaison Program Officer, where she coordinated engagements with government institutions, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and local communities on health, nutrition, WASH and humanitarian programmes.
She also coordinated humanitarian and community mobilisation initiatives across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States, leading multisectoral interventions aimed at supporting communities affected by insurgency and displacement.
A trained nurse, midwife, health educator and public health specialist, Hajja Konto holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health and has served as a lecturer in Community Health. She currently serves as a member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) of the Global Fund in Nigeria and as National Treasurer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN).
The Labour Party said her extensive experience in governance engagement, humanitarian coordination, women’s empowerment, public policy implementation and conflict-sensitive programming, alongside her fluency in English, Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa, Fulani and Bura, makes her a valuable addition to its presidential ticket.
The party added that her nomination reinforces its commitment to gender inclusion, national unity and the promotion of competent leadership drawn from across the country.
It further expressed confidence that the Okereke-Konto ticket offers Nigerians a people-centred leadership focused on rebuilding national institutions, reviving the economy, improving security and delivering responsible governance.
The Labour Party concluded by calling on Nigerians to support its presidential ticket as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election.
