The Labour Party has dismissed reports alleging that it failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the closure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the Labour Party said it successfully uploaded the names of all its duly nominated candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections well ahead of the July 14, 2026 deadline set by INEC.
According to the party, the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates were uploaded on July 10, 2026, four days before the nomination portal closed, adding that the process was completed seamlessly and in full compliance with the electoral guidelines issued by the Commission.
The party said it was reacting to media reports alleging that it failed to meet the deadline, insisting that the publication was “patently false” and based on misinformation.
The Labour Party also criticized the unnamed media organisation behind the report, accusing it of publishing a sensitive story without seeking clarification from the party’s leadership. It questioned the reliance on what it described as an anonymous INEC source and suggested that the report failed to meet basic standards of responsible journalism.
The party further noted that INEC had already released its timetable for the publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 General Elections, expressing confidence that the Commission’s official publication would confirm that its candidates were duly nominated and uploaded within the stipulated timeframe.
It urged its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the reports, maintaining that they were designed to create confusion and undermine confidence in the party.
The statement added that the Labour Party remained focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections and would not be distracted by what it described as propaganda aimed at diminishing its growing political momentum.
