The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has restored its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) following a temporary disruption, directing tertiary institutions to accelerate the 2026/2027 admission process and meet approved deadlines.
JAMB announced that CAPS is now fully operational and urged institutions to recover time lost during the disruption. The board also advised candidates who receive admission offers to promptly accept them through the system.
According to JAMB, public universities are required to conclude their admission exercises by October 31, 2026. Private universities have until November 30, while other tertiary institutions must complete their admission processes by December 31, 2026.
“With CAPS back online, institutions are urged to accelerate their admission processes to recover lost time and meet the agreed admission deadlines,” JAMB said.
The board also called on candidates who had been awaiting their Senior School Certificate Examination results to upload or verify their credentials following the release of the 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) results. JAMB said the step would ensure candidates’ credentials are available for consideration as institutions intensify admission processing.
The restoration is significant for thousands of prospective undergraduates awaiting admission decisions for the 2026/2027 academic session. The CAPS platform enables candidates to monitor admission offers and confirm or reject provisional admissions, while helping institutions process admissions electronically.
JAMB expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and thanked candidates, institutions and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding. The board urged all parties to take advantage of the restored platform and proceed with admission activities within the approved timelines.
CAPS was introduced by JAMB to automate Nigeria’s tertiary admission process, improve transparency and allow candidates to access information about their admission status and available offers. The system remains central to the admission process for Nigerian universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions.
