Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo has become the centre of renewed public attention following reports that a kidnapped family regained freedom shortly after he issued an ultimatum to local Fulani leaders and traditional authorities in parts of Oyo State.
Igboho, who returned to Nigeria in January 2026 after years outside the country, had on June 20 publicly demanded the immediate release of abducted residents, accusing some individuals within local communities of collaborating with criminal groups responsible for kidnapping and attacks.
Videos circulating on social media showed jubilant scenes of residents celebrating the return of the alleged victims, while other footage captured Igboho and his supporters moving through forest areas near the Old Oyo National Park in search of criminal hideouts.
However, the Nigeria Police Force rejected claims linking the victims’ freedom to Igboho’s intervention, maintaining that there was no official confirmation that his ultimatum resulted in any release.
Police authorities also cautioned against the spread of unverified claims, emphasizing that security operations against kidnapping remain the responsibility of legally constituted agencies.
The development has generated sharp reactions among Nigerians, especially in communities affected by repeated incidents of abduction and violent attacks.
Supporters of Igboho hailed his intervention as a courageous response to worsening insecurity, arguing that local communities have become increasingly desperate for solutions amid persistent attacks in rural areas of Oyo State.
