Hollywood is mourning the death of American actress Hayden Panettiere, who died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36, just five days before what would have been her 37th birthday.
Panettiere, best known for her roles in the television series Heroes and Nashville, was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina. Emergency responders attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The actress’s death has prompted tributes from former colleagues, friends and family members. Her former fiancé, retired heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, paid tribute to her on August 21, the date she would have celebrated her 37th birthday.
“Instead of celebrating the way we had planned, today we celebrate her life, her spirit, and the love she brought into this world,” Klitschko wrote in a tribute.
Panettiere began working as a child and gained international recognition as Claire Bennet in Heroes, which premiered in 2006. She later starred as country singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville, earning two Golden Globe nominations for the role. Her film credits also included Remember the Titans, I Love You, Beth Cooper and the Scream franchise.
In 2026, Panettiere published her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she discussed her experiences with addiction, postpartum depression and the pressures of growing up in the entertainment industry.
She is survived by her daughter, Kaya, whom she shared with Klitschko.
