Galadima Urges Atiku to Join NDC, Warns of Blame Over Opposition Setbacks

Elder statesman and political figure, Buba Galadima, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that he could be held responsible if the opposition fails to secure victory in future elections.

Galadima made the statement while commenting on ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition political space ahead of the 2027 general elections. He argued that unity among opposition figures would be critical in mounting a strong challenge to the ruling party.

He said Atiku’s continued hesitation or refusal to align with a broader coalition structure could weaken opposition chances, adding that fragmentation within opposition ranks has historically contributed to electoral defeats.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has recently been mentioned in political discussions as a potential new platform attracting interest from key opposition figures as parties reposition ahead of the next election cycle.

Atiku Abubakar, who has contested multiple presidential elections and remains a major figure in opposition politics, has not publicly confirmed any intention to join the NDC.

Galadima warned that if opposition forces fail to unite under a common platform or strategy, prominent leaders would be held accountable by supporters and political observers who expect a stronger coordinated front.

He further stressed that Nigeria’s political landscape requires strategic alliances and collective action, particularly as election preparations begin to take shape across major parties and coalitions.

Political analysts say the statement reflects growing pressure within opposition circles to consolidate ahead of 2027, as fragmentation and internal disputes have often weakened electoral competitiveness in previous cycles.

However, some observers caution that coalition-building efforts in Nigeria are often complex, with ideological differences, leadership ambitions, and regional interests influencing final alignments.

As political activities continue to build momentum, attention remains on whether opposition leaders will move toward a unified platform or continue to pursue separate political strategies.
