Suspected bandits have reportedly killed the Chief Imam of Talluje village and two other residents during coordinated attacks on Talluje and the neighbouring Chofi village in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to local reports, the attackers stormed the communities on Wednesday, opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic. Among those killed was the Chief Imam of Talluje, whose death has sparked grief within the affected communities.
The attacks also claimed the lives of two other residents, while several others were displaced as hundreds of people fled their homes in search of safety.
Residents said the violence forced families to abandon their properties and seek refuge in nearby communities, amid fears of further attacks.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing parts of Sokoto State and Nigeria’s North-West, where communities have continued to experience attacks by armed groups involved in banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
Security agencies have reportedly intensified efforts to restore calm in the affected areas, while local authorities continue to assess the humanitarian impact of the attacks and support displaced residents.
Community leaders have called for increased security presence and sustained operations against criminal groups to prevent further violence and enable displaced families to return to their homes safely.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information, and avoid actions that could escalate tensions as investigations and security operations continue.
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in rural communities across the North-West, where repeated assaults have disrupted livelihoods, displaced thousands of residents, and heightened calls for stronger measures to protect vulnerable populations.
