Senator Ali Ndume has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to select Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate has significantly strengthened the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on the political outlook for the ruling party, Ndume described Shettima as a loyal, experienced, and competent leader whose contributions to governance have reinforced the APC’s standing across the country. He argued that the partnership between Tinubu and Shettima has enhanced the administration’s political stability and improved the party’s prospects for re-election.
According to the Borno South senator, the vice president has demonstrated strong leadership by supporting the implementation of key government policies and engaging stakeholders on national development issues. Ndume noted that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket has continued to gain acceptance among party members and supporters since assuming office in May 2023.
The senator also dismissed speculation surrounding the APC’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election, insisting that there is no reason to alter a combination that has delivered electoral success for the party. He maintained that unity within the APC remains crucial as preparations gradually begin for the next election cycle.
Ndume further urged party members to remain focused on supporting the current administration’s programmes rather than engaging in premature political campaigns. He emphasized that the government’s performance over the coming years would play a key role in shaping public perception ahead of the next general election.
