A political analyst, Abdulaziz Idris, has alleged that the Labour Party’s performance in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election was influenced by manipulation of electoral servers, a claim that has generated controversy and pushback.
Speaking on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, Idris claimed that the strong showing by the Labour Party candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who secured 347,159 votes, was linked to interference attributed to former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi.
Official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning the election with 1,620,104 votes. The outcome was subsequently upheld by election tribunals, with no evidence of hacking established during court proceedings or independent audits.
The allegations have drawn strong reactions online, particularly from supporters of Obi, who dismissed the claims as unfounded and called for legal action over alleged defamation.
The controversy comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with discussions around opposition unity continuing to shape the national discourse.
