Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the successful conduct of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) convention as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, commending party leadership and citizens for their resilience “against all odds.”
In a statement following the convention, Obi praised the leadership of the party under Chairman David Mark, noting that his calm and steady guidance provided direction at critical moments. He also acknowledged the efforts of the convention organising committee led by former governor Liyel Imoke, whose diligence and attention to detail ensured the event’s success.
Obi extended appreciation to delegates, party faithful, volunteers, and supporters across Nigeria and in the diaspora, stating that their commitment reaffirmed the strength of democracy when citizens remain steadfast. He further thanked Nigerians broadly for their resilience and unwavering belief in democratic ideals, emphasizing that the power of the people remains stronger than forces that seek to undermine it.
However, the former Anambra State governor stressed that the conclusion of the convention must signal the beginning of greater responsibility. He highlighted Nigeria’s pressing challenges—including economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and widespread uncertainty—warning that they require urgent attention, clear thinking, and decisive leadership.
According to him, the success of the convention must evolve into a renewed national commitment to building a functional and inclusive country. He called for practical solutions, institutional strengthening, and deliberate efforts to restore hope to millions of Nigerians.
Obi emphasized that unity, sacrifice, and integrity are critical to national progress, urging leaders and citizens alike to place Nigeria above personal and political interests.
Reiterating his message of optimism, he concluded that a “new Nigeria is possible,” urging sustained commitment toward achieving a more stable and prosperous future.
