Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said Africa has the potential to feed the entire world if the continent is guided by visionary leadership and effective governance.
Obi made the statement while highlighting Africa’s vast natural resources, fertile land, youthful population, and agricultural opportunities. According to him, the continent possesses enough resources to overcome food insecurity and become a major supplier of agricultural products globally if leaders prioritize development, accountability, and strategic planning.
The former presidential candidate argued that Africa’s challenges are not caused by a lack of resources but by poor management, weak institutions, and leadership failures. He maintained that with the right policies, investments, and commitment from governments, African nations can transform their agricultural sectors and improve the standard of living of their citizens.
Obi stressed that agriculture remains one of the most important areas where African countries can achieve economic growth, create jobs, and reduce dependence on imports. He called for increased investment in modern farming techniques, infrastructure, technology, and support systems for farmers.
The politician also emphasized the need for leaders across the continent to focus on long-term development rather than short-term political gains. He said responsible governance would enable Africa to maximize its resources and compete effectively in the global economy.
Africa is widely recognized as a continent with significant agricultural potential, with millions of hectares of arable land and diverse climates suitable for various crops. However, many countries continue to face challenges including food insecurity, limited infrastructure, climate-related issues, and inadequate investment in farming.
Obi’s comments have continued to generate discussions about leadership, economic development, and Africa’s ability to achieve self-sufficiency. Supporters of his views say improved governance and investment could unlock the continent’s potential, while experts have stressed the importance of policy reforms, regional cooperation, and sustainable development.
