A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has affirmed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress headed by former Senate President David Mark.
In its ruling delivered on Thursday, the court upheld the legitimacy of the party’s current leadership, reinforcing David Mark’s position at the helm of the ADC amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The judgment is expected to provide greater certainty within the party’s leadership structure as it continues preparations for forthcoming electoral activities, including candidate nominations and campaign planning.
The decision comes at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is witnessing increased coalition-building, party defections, and legal contests over leadership and internal party administration.
Political observers believe the ruling could strengthen the ADC’s organizational stability and enhance its ability to consolidate its structures ahead of the next general election.
The court’s decision is also expected to reduce uncertainty among party members and supporters, although parties dissatisfied with the ruling retain the constitutional right to challenge the judgment before the appropriate appellate court.
The ADC has maintained that it remains committed to internal democracy, constitutional governance, and offering Nigerians a credible political alternative in the build-up to the 2027 polls.
Following the judgment, party leaders welcomed the decision, describing it as a reaffirmation of due process and the rule of law, while reiterating their commitment to strengthening the party and expanding its grassroots support across the country.
