Lagos has been thrown into chaos after hours of relentless rainfall triggered severe flooding that submerged several houses, streets, and business areas across parts of the state, leaving residents stranded and forcing emergency evacuation efforts.
The downpour, which persisted for much of the day, turned many communities into waterways as floodwaters rose rapidly and overwhelmed drainage channels. Vehicles were abandoned on flooded roads, shops were inundated, and homes were partially or completely submerged, forcing families to scramble for safety. In several neighborhoods, residents were seen wading through waist-deep water while others used makeshift means to move belongings to higher ground.
Emergency responders and local authorities were deployed to the worst-hit areas to assist affected families, clear blocked routes, and help evacuate vulnerable residents, especially children, the elderly, and those living in low-lying communities. Officials said efforts were ongoing to drain the water and reduce the risk of further destruction to property and infrastructure.
Authorities have also urged residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer grounds as a precaution, warning that more rainfall could worsen the situation. They advised motorists to avoid submerged roads and called on communities to remain alert while recovery and drainage operations continue across the state.
