Troops of the Nigerian military have killed two suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during a security operation in Kebbi State, recovering weapons and other items believed to have been used by the suspects.
According to military sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of armed terrorists in parts of the state. The troops engaged the suspects in a firefight, resulting in the deaths of two alleged militants.
Following the operation, security personnel recovered firearms, ammunition, and other operational materials from the scene. The recovered items have been taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations and intelligence gathering.
The military described the operation as part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security across the North-West, where the Lakurawa group has emerged as a growing security concern in recent years.
Security agencies have intensified intelligence-driven operations across Kebbi and neighbouring states to prevent terrorist activities, protect communities, and disrupt the movement of armed groups operating along Nigeria’s northwestern border.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist and criminal elements, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information that could support ongoing security operations.
They also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, emphasizing that community support remains vital to the success of counterterrorism efforts.
The latest operation underscores the Nigerian military’s continued campaign against terrorist groups and other armed criminal organizations, with authorities pledging to sustain operations aimed at improving security and safeguarding lives and property across the region.
