INEC Denies NDC Access to Upload Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) access to its online portal for the upload of candidates, following the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja that set aside the earlier order directing the commission to register the party.

The development comes after INEC announced that it had applied for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court’s judgment and would comply with the ruling in accordance with the law after studying the decision.

With the latest action, the NDC is currently unable to access INEC’s candidate nomination portal, effectively preventing the party from uploading candidates for any electoral process pending further legal or administrative action.

The Lokoja judgment, which nullified the earlier order compelling INEC to register the NDC, has continued to generate widespread legal and political reactions, with the party indicating its intention to challenge the ruling.

INEC has maintained that its actions are guided by the court’s decision and the provisions of the Electoral Act, pending any further orders from a competent court.
