Wike Vows Crackdown on Illegal Land Occupation Across Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups involved in illegal land acquisition and unauthorized developments in Abuja, declaring that the government will demolish structures erected on unlawfully occupied land.

The minister made the statement during an inspection of ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, reiterating the administration’s commitment to restoring order in land administration and urban planning across the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Wike, the FCT Administration will no longer tolerate the activities of land grabbers whose actions have contributed to the proliferation of illegal structures, encroachment on government property, and violations of approved development plans.

“We will bring your property down,” the minister warned, emphasizing that the government is prepared to enforce existing laws regardless of the status of those involved.

Wike noted that illegal occupation of land has become a major challenge in parts of Abuja, leading to disputes, environmental concerns, and disruptions to planned infrastructure projects. He stressed that preserving the city’s master plan remains a top priority for the administration.

The minister explained that authorities have intensified monitoring and enforcement efforts to identify unauthorized developments and ensure compliance with land-use regulations. He urged residents and property developers to obtain proper approvals before commencing any construction activities.

Urban planning experts have welcomed the government’s stance, arguing that unchecked land grabbing can undermine sustainable development and create long-term challenges for city management.

Meanwhile, some residents have called for transparency and fairness in enforcement actions to ensure that legitimate property owners are not wrongly affected during demolition exercises.

The warning comes as the FCT Administration continues efforts to improve infrastructure, expand road networks, and implement urban renewal projects aimed at transforming Abuja into a modern and well-planned capital city.

Officials say strict enforcement of land regulations is essential to protecting public assets and ensuring orderly development across the territory.
