NINN Federal Constituency: Group Makes Case for Njaba South Representation in 2027

A political advocacy group within the Njaba/Isu/Nwangele/Nkwerre (NINN) Federal Constituency has called for what it described as equitable representation ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election, arguing that Njaba Local Government Area remains the least represented component of the constituency since Nigeria’s return to democratic governance.

According to historical records cited by the group, representation in the federal constituency has been shared among the four local government areas over the years, with Isu, Nkwerre, and Nwangele LGAs collectively producing the majority of elected lawmakers.

The group listed the constituency’s past representatives as including Veronica Nnaji from Isu, who served two terms between 1979 and 1983; Mathias Nnaji of Isu, who served between 1991 and 1993; Chidi Nwogu of Nkwerre, who represented the constituency from 2003 to 2007; Juliet Akano of Nwangele, who served from 2007 to 2011; Jones Onyereri of Nkwerre, who completed two terms between 2011 and 2019; and Ozurigbo Ozuruigbo of Nwangele, who served from 2019 until 2024.

The group also noted that the current representative, Harrison Nwadike, is from Okwudor in Njaba LGA and assumed office in 2024 following a court judgment.

Based on its calculations, the group claimed that Isu and Nkwerre LGAs have each enjoyed three terms of representation, while Nwangele has held the seat for approximately three and a half terms. Njaba, it argued, has had only half a term of representation.

On the strength of this assessment, the group contended that the 2027 election presents an opportunity for Njaba South to produce the next member of the House of Representatives in the interest of fairness, balance, and inclusion.

The advocates specifically endorsed Dr. T.J. Ehirim, popularly referred to as “Igirigi Ndu Imo State,” as a potential candidate under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing him as a candidate with the capacity and popularity to secure victory for the party in the constituency.

According to the group, presenting a candidate from Njaba South would not only address what it views as a longstanding representation imbalance but could also strengthen the electoral fortunes of the NDC and the Obidient Movement in the constituency.

The position remains the opinion of the advocacy group and is likely to form part of the wider political debate as parties and stakeholders begin consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
