The Kano State Fire Service has reported that it rescued 34 people from various emergencies across the state in May 2026, while 13 lives were lost in incidents attended by the agency during the same period.

According to the service, its personnel responded to numerous emergency calls involving fire outbreaks, road accidents, rescue operations, and other distress situations across different parts of Kano State.

The agency disclosed that the rescued individuals were saved through prompt intervention by firefighters and emergency responders, who worked to contain fires, evacuate victims, and provide assistance at accident scenes.

Despite these successes, the service noted that 13 people lost their lives in separate incidents during the month. The fatalities were linked to various emergencies, including fire disasters and other accidents reported to the agency.

Officials also indicated that significant amounts of property were saved from destruction through timely firefighting efforts, helping to reduce the economic impact of the incidents on affected families and businesses.

The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to improving emergency response and public safety, urging residents to take preventive measures against fire outbreaks and other avoidable disasters.

Authorities advised members of the public to ensure proper handling of electrical appliances, cooking gas cylinders, fuel products, and other potentially hazardous materials. They also encouraged residents to report emergencies promptly to enable rapid response by rescue teams.

Emergency management experts note that public awareness, adherence to safety regulations, and early reporting of incidents remain critical factors in reducing casualties and property losses.

The latest figures highlight both the importance of emergency response services and the continuing need for stronger safety practices in homes, markets, workplaces, and public facilities across Kano State.

The Fire Service assured residents that it would continue to strengthen its operational capacity and collaborate with relevant agencies to improve emergency preparedness and response throughout the state.
