Scorecards of Peter Obi by Great Imo Jonathan

As political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to dominate the national space, supporters of former Anambra State Governor and presidential hopeful, , have intensified efforts to showcase what they describe as his “verifiable track record” in both the private sector and public service.
In a detailed statement circulating online, political commentator Great Imo Jonathan argued that before joining politics in 1999, Peter Obi was already an accomplished businessman whose wealth and corporate influence allegedly surpassed that of many politicians who later rose to power through public office.
According to the statement, Obi built a strong reputation in banking, commerce, manufacturing, and investment long before becoming Governor of Anambra State in 2006. The publication highlighted his role at , where he reportedly became one of the youngest bank chairmen in Nigeria and contributed to the institution’s growth into a major financial brand.
The report further claimed that Obi’s business interests extended into retail, manufacturing, securities, and international trade, including the establishment of Next Cash and Carry and participation in several corporate boards within Nigeria’s financial sector.
Attention was also drawn to Obi’s tenure as governor of between 2006 and 2014, which supporters described as one of the most financially disciplined administrations in Nigeria’s democratic era.
The statement listed achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, fiscal management, investment attraction, and governance reforms. Among the projects cited were the construction of roads and bridges, restoration of mission schools, establishment of technical education programs, healthcare reforms, erosion control initiatives, and strategic savings allegedly left behind at the end of his administration.
Supporters also referenced reports by the National Bureau of Statistics, claiming that poverty levels in Anambra declined significantly during Obi’s administration while the state’s economy recorded substantial growth.
The publication emphasized that Obi’s leadership style was less media-driven and more focused on measurable results, insisting that many of his achievements were documented by institutions including the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, development partners, and federal agencies.
Political observers note that the renewed spotlight on Peter Obi’s record is part of a broader effort by his supporters to strengthen his credibility ahead of the 2027 presidential race under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
As campaigns and alignments gradually intensify across the political landscape, analysts believe issues such as economic management, transparency, prudence, education, and security will heavily influence voter decisions in the coming election cycle.
