Kwankwaso Hosts NDC Leaders in Abuja Ahead of 2027 Political Realignments

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Monday hosted top members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, in what observers see as another sign of growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among those received at Kwankwaso’s residence in the nation’s capital was Mohammed Bakin, the NDC National Vice-Chairman (North-West), alongside other prominent party chieftains.

Sources within the Kwankwasiyya movement disclosed on Tuesday evening that the visiting NDC leaders used the meeting to formally engage Kwankwaso on the possibility of joining their political platform as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum.

The development is coming amid increasing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition space, as major political actors continue consultations aimed at building stronger alliances capable of challenging the ruling establishment in the next presidential election.

Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and a major northern political force, remains one of the most sought-after figures in the unfolding coalition talks, with several opposition groups reportedly interested in securing his participation in a broader national alliance.

Although details of the closed-door meeting remain limited, insiders suggest that discussions centered on national political strategy, opposition unity, and the need for a stronger platform that can effectively mobilize voters across regions.

Political analysts believe that any formal alignment involving Kwankwaso could significantly reshape the opposition landscape, particularly in northern Nigeria where his influence remains substantial.

As coalition conversations intensify, attention now turns to whether the former NNPP presidential candidate will accept the invitation and what such a move could mean for the wider opposition movement ahead of 2027.
