Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has denied allegations that he received financial inducement before handing over the party’s structure to a new leadership.
Nwosu made the clarification amid viral claims suggesting he accepted large sums of money prior to transferring control of the party to a National Working Committee reportedly led by Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.
Speaking in an interview, he challenged the public to verify his claims through former President Olusegun Obasanjo, insisting that no money had ever exchanged hands between them since their initial political discussions.
“Anybody can ask Obasanjo from the time we first discussed till now if he has ever given me a dime,” Nwosu said, adding that his decision to hand over the party was based on principle rather than financial gain.
He emphasized that his involvement in politics has been driven by a desire to eliminate money politics and political thuggery, which he said discourage credible participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
Nwosu also stated that he was financially stable before entering politics and did not seek personal enrichment, noting that the party rejected offers from other political groups seeking endorsement.
He further recalled that the ADC was among the parties that opposed the outcome of the 2023 general elections without accepting any financial incentives.
The remarks come amid ongoing debates over leadership changes within the ADC and broader concerns about transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s political landscape.
