A viral video circulating on social media has raised alarm over a reported terrorists attack in Gurmana Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, where armed groups are alleged to have taken control of parts of the community.
The footage, shared by a Facebook user identified as CP Wakeely Maito, shows women and children fleeing what is described as the Riverin area, triggering widespread concern among residents and observers.
Unconfirmed reports accompanying the video claim that security personnel, including operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, withdrew from the area after being outnumbered by the attackers. However, there has been no official statement from authorities confirming these claims at the time of reporting.
The situation highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Niger State, particularly in Shiroro LGA, which has experienced repeated incidents involving armed groups in recent years.
Meanwhile, criticism has emerged from some quarters over the response of the state government led by Mohammed Umar Bago, with concerns raised about governance priorities amid the reported crisis. Government officials are yet to publicly respond to the latest allegations.
Security analysts continue to emphasize the need for coordinated and sustained efforts to address insecurity in affected communities, as residents call for urgent intervention to restore safety and stability.
