Tinubu Cancels Ogun Trip, Heads to Jos After Deadly Plateau Attacks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed a scheduled visit to Ogun State to travel to Jos, the capital of Plateau State, following a deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba area.

The violence, which occurred on Palm Sunday, left at least 26 people dead, according to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang. In response, the state government imposed a 48-hour curfew while security agencies carried out arrests and intensified operations to restore order.

Governor Mutfwang reportedly briefed the president on the situation, after which additional security measures were approved to address the crisis. Tinubu described his visit as a “first duty” to commiserate with the victims and their families, while also reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity.

Plateau State has long been affected by recurring violence, often linked to farmer-herder clashes and banditry, making security concerns a persistent challenge in the region.

Meanwhile, reactions to the incident have continued to emerge, including comments from U.S. Representative Riley Moore, who claimed that dozens of Christians were killed by “Islamic radical terrorists.” Nigerian authorities, however, have rejected such characterizations, cautioning against narratives that could further inflame tensions.

The president’s visit is expected to focus on assessing the situation on the ground and engaging with local leaders as efforts continue to restore calm in the affected communities.
