Kano APC chieftain dies after been trapped in Abuja hotel elevator

Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau, a prominent Nigerian lawyer and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly died after being trapped inside an elevator at a hotel in Abuja. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, raising questions about safety standards and emergency protocols in public facilities.
Eyewitnesses report that Ginsau was stuck in the lift for an extended period, which may have contributed to his death by suffocation before help could arrive. While some sources suggest a power outage may have caused the lift to malfunction, others point to a possible mechanical fault. The identity of the hotel has not been disclosed, further fueling public concern about transparency.
The tragedy has sparked outrage among Nigerians, particularly regarding the safety of elevators and public infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Many are questioning whether routine maintenance checks were conducted and if emergency response procedures were adequately implemented.
Reacting to the incident, former lawmaker Shehu Sani described Ginsau’s death as “tragic and disturbing,” highlighting the uncertainties surrounding the lift’s malfunction. Social media users have also demanded stricter enforcement of safety regulations in hotels, shopping complexes, and office buildings nationwide.
Beyond his legal career, Ginsau was an active political figure in Kano State. He had recently been elected as the State Assistant Organising Secretary of the APC during the party’s state executive elections on March 3, 2026—just 28 days before his untimely death.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about infrastructure safety, regulatory oversight, and accountability in Nigeria, prompting calls for immediate action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
