Telcos Must Provide 14-Day Notice Before SIM Deactivation – NCC

Abuja, March 3, 2026 – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecommunications operators to provide subscribers with a minimum of 14 days’ notice before deactivating any Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Nigerian Communications Commission emphasized that the directive is aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring transparency in the enforcement of SIM-related regulations.

According to the Commission, telecom operators must adequately notify affected subscribers through appropriate communication channels, outlining the reasons for the planned deactivation and providing guidance on how to resolve any outstanding issues within the stipulated timeframe.

The NCC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights while maintaining compliance with national telecommunications and security policies. It also urged subscribers to ensure their SIM registration details are accurate and up to date to avoid service disruptions.

Industry stakeholders say the directive is expected to improve accountability and reduce abrupt service interruptions for millions of mobile users nationwide.
