BREAKING: DSS Arrests Suspect Over Threats and Alleged Role in Attack on Peter Obi

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested a 26-year-old suspect, Udeme Monday Stephen, in connection with threats and alleged involvement in the recent attack targeting former presidential candidate in Edo State.

Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended following what they described as a thorough and covert investigation into the incident. Shortly after the attack at the Benin residence of former Edo State governor and ADC stalwart , an X (formerly Twitter) user identified as @stevetom788 allegedly posted messages claiming responsibility and issuing further threats against Obi.

In the now-circulating posts, the user boasted that Obi was “lucky to have escaped in Benin” and vowed that he would not be as fortunate in future engagements, particularly referencing a potential visit to Rivers State. The posts contained explicit threats, including statements suggesting that “my men go handle that one and dem no dey miss target,” alongside inflammatory remarks.

According to a top security source, DSS operatives immediately commenced forensic analysis to track the origin of the threatening posts. The investigation reportedly led to the arrest of Udeme Monday Stephen, said to be a teacher at Jessica High School in the Eliozu area of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.

“I strongly believe that the outcome of the agency’s forensic investigations implicated the suspect,” the source stated, adding that as a counter-espionage and VIP protection agency, the DSS acted swiftly on credible intelligence. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be charged to court.

COPDEM Media TV had earlier reported that Obi and several party leaders were attacked last Tuesday during a gathering at the Benin residence of Odigie-Oyegun, heightening political tensions in the region.

Observers have called for a transparent and comprehensive investigation, urging authorities to make public the outcome of the case to ensure accountability and prevent any perception of a cover-up.
