Tinubu Calls for Unity as Ramadan and Lent Coincide in 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday said the 2026 Ramadan, which coincides with the Christian Lenten season, presents a unique opportunity for Nigerians to promote unity, peace, and national stability.

The President made the remarks while declaring open the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja.

Addressing worshippers, President Tinubu noted the significance of the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent, describing it as a divine reminder of the need for collaboration and harmony across religious lines.

He urged Muslims to embrace the spiritual essence of Ramadan by strengthening their relationship with God, extending kindness to others, and fostering forgiveness and goodwill.

“As we begin this Ramadan, we are reminded of its core teachings — to draw closer to God, to show goodness to others, to share love and faith, and to forgive one another,” the President said.

He also called on citizens to pray for the nation and those facing hardship, expressing hope that God would provide solutions to Nigeria’s challenges. The President prayed for peace, guidance, and continued progress for the country, including victory over terrorism and banditry.

President Tinubu further emphasized that the values of compassion, discipline, and commitment to nation-building associated with Ramadan should extend beyond the fasting period.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Sheikh Abdulwaheed Abubakar Suleiman, prayed for the President’s health and strength as he works to improve the welfare and well-being of Nigerians.

The event was attended by several senior government officials, including the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Also present were the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi; and the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado.

The Ramadan Tafsir marks the beginning of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
