Apple Inc. has announced an invite-only event set for March 4, to be held simultaneously in New York City, London, and Shanghai. The company has not disclosed the purpose of the gathering, sparking widespread speculation about potential product announcements.
Unlike Apple’s flagship keynote presentations, which are typically hosted at Apple Park in Cupertino and streamed globally, this event appears to be more limited in scope. The absence of any announced livestream has led industry observers to question whether the company intends to unveil major hardware updates or opt for a more focused briefing.
Potential M5 Mac Updates
Much of the speculation centers on Apple’s next-generation M5 silicon. The company refreshed several devices with updated Apple Silicon chips in October 2025, including the iPad Pro, Vision Pro, and 14-inch MacBook Pro. Analysts now anticipate that additional models could transition to the M5 platform.
Prime candidates include the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, potentially featuring higher-end M5 Pro and M5 Max variants. The MacBook Air lineup could also see updates, following the release of M4 versions in March 2025. An early-year refresh would align closely with Apple’s typical annual upgrade cycle.
Industry rumors have also pointed to a lower-cost MacBook powered by an A18 Pro chip—similar to those used in iPhone models—rather than an M-series processor. Reports suggest the device could debut in multiple colors at a price range between $699 and $750. A March launch window has been widely discussed.
iPad Lineup Refreshes Possible
Apple’s iPad portfolio may also be due for updates. The iPad Air, last refreshed in March 2025 with the M3 chip, could move to the M4 processor. Similarly, the entry-level iPad, which currently runs on the A16 chip, may receive an upgrade to the A17.
The iPad mini is another potential candidate. Last updated in October 2024 with the A17 Pro chip, the compact tablet is reportedly being considered for a more substantial refresh, possibly including a new A-series processor and a transition to an OLED display.
Early Debut for iPhone 17e?
Attention has also focused on the rumored iPhone 17e, which has been expected to follow an annual release pattern. While earlier reports suggested a February unveiling, a March debut now appears plausible.
If launched, the device is expected to feature a 6.1-inch 60Hz OLED always-on display and replace the notch design with Apple’s Dynamic Island interface, aligning its design language more closely with recent flagship models.
Desktop Macs Less Likely
Notably absent from current speculation are updates to Apple’s desktop Mac lineup. The iMac and Mac mini received M4 upgrades in late 2024, while the Mac Studio was refreshed in March 2025. Industry observers suggest desktop revisions are more likely to follow notebook updates later in 2026.
The outlook for the Mac Pro remains uncertain. Once positioned as Apple’s most powerful workstation, the model has seen diminished emphasis as the Mac Studio gains traction among professional users.
