Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has revealed that she lost some of her Christian fans after publicly disclosing that she is a Muslim.
The actress made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, where she discussed her religious identity and the reaction she received after choosing to speak openly about her faith.
Ade said she had previously been reluctant to publicly identify as a Muslim because of what she described as the nature of the Nigerian entertainment industry. According to her, publicly declaring the faith could result in people looking down on her.
“In my line of work, it is almost forbidden for you to publicly say you are a Muslim. You could be looked down upon for doing that,” she said.
The actress explained that she eventually decided to reveal her faith because she was tired of keeping it private. She stressed that her decision was personal and should not be interpreted as an attack on Christianity.
Ade said she had attended different churches but believes Islam is the religion that works for her. She added that her understanding of Islam is focused not only on outward appearance but also on a person’s character and treatment of others.
She also disclosed that some Christian followers unfollowed her after the revelation, while others sent private messages expressing concern and praying for her. At the same time, she said many Muslims embraced and supported her.
The revelation has drawn attention to the relationship between religious identity and public life, particularly for celebrities whose personal beliefs can become subjects of public discussion.
