2027: Damiyal, Vincent Lead NDC’s Renewed Push for Plateau Governorship

JOS, PLATEAU STATE — September 15, 2026: The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has strengthened its preparations for the 2027 Plateau State governorship election with the affirmation of Alfred Dapal Damiyal as its governorship candidate and Mwadkon Dung Vincent as his running mate.

The affirmation, which took place on Tuesday at the NDC State Secretariat in Jos, brought together party delegates, stakeholders and other members of the political organization. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to supervise the exercise, according to the announcement.

The development represents an important milestone in the NDC’s efforts to establish a coordinated political platform in Plateau State and take its message directly to the electorate. With the governorship candidate and running mate now affirmed, the party has a designated leadership team around which it can organize its campaign activities and deepen engagement with communities across the state.

The emergence of the Damiyal–Vincent ticket comes at a time when political parties are preparing for the 2027 electoral contest, creating renewed opportunities for dialogue on the future of governance in Plateau State. For the NDC, the affirmation provides a foundation for advancing its political agenda, mobilizing supporters and communicating its vision to citizens seeking effective leadership and meaningful development.

NDC Ticket Opens New Chapter for Plateau Political Engagement

The affirmation of Alfred Dapal Damiyal and Mwadkon Dung Vincent gives the NDC a clear governorship ticket as it prepares to engage voters across Plateau State. The exercise brings together the party’s designated candidates and creates an opportunity to build greater coordination among its structures, delegates and stakeholders.

A successful electoral campaign requires more than the announcement of candidates. It also depends on sustained engagement with citizens, effective communication of policies and the ability to connect proposed solutions to the everyday realities of communities. The NDC’s next phase of preparations can therefore provide an avenue for the candidates to outline their priorities and explain how their proposed administration would address the concerns of the people.

The party’s governorship team has an opportunity to make issues affecting Plateau residents central to its engagement, including security, economic opportunities, infrastructure, education, healthcare and agricultural development. The specific programmes and commitments of the candidates, however, are yet to be detailed in the announcement confirming their affirmation.

The political significance of the exercise also extends to the party’s internal organization. A designated ticket can serve as a focal point for bringing together party members and supporters, coordinating campaign activities and establishing a consistent public message. The extent to which these opportunities are realized will depend on the party’s subsequent organization and engagement.

Damiyal–Vincent Ticket and the Promise of a Coordinated Campaign

The affirmation presents the NDC with an opportunity to move from candidate selection to broader campaign planning. The party can use this stage to deepen its presence at the grassroots, engage local stakeholders and create channels through which residents can participate in discussions about the direction of Plateau State.

For the candidates, the period ahead will be an opportunity to introduce their leadership priorities to the electorate and explain the practical measures they propose to pursue if elected. Transparent communication, accessible engagement and attention to the concerns of residents can contribute to informed public discussion throughout the campaign.

The NDC’s efforts in Plateau State will also take place within a wider electoral environment in which parties seek to build support and present competing governance proposals. The affirmation of its ticket establishes a formal political milestone, while the party’s subsequent activities will determine how it develops and communicates its platform to voters.

A United Ticket Ahead of the 2027 Contest:

The affirmation of Alfred Dapal Damiyal as governorship candidate, alongside Mwadkon Dung Vincent as running mate, provides the NDC with a designated team for its Plateau State governorship campaign preparations.

The exercise marks the beginning of another stage in the party’s work toward the 2027 election. As the political process progresses, attention will turn to the candidates’ agenda, their engagement with the electorate and the NDC’s plans for strengthening its structures across Plateau State.

The party’s affirmation offers a platform for continued political activity and public engagement, while residents will have the opportunity to examine the programmes and commitments presented by the candidates and other contestants in the governorship race.

The NDC’s Plateau governorship ticket is now affirmed, and the road toward the 2027 election continues.
