Nigerian streamer and content creator Carter Efe has challenged Afrobeats superstar Wizkid to a boxing match, while claiming that his 2022 hit song “Machala” played a major role in boosting the singer’s career.
Carter Efe made the comments while speaking about his relationship with Wizkid and the success of the tribute song, which he recorded with singer Berri Tiga. He also called on Wizkid to face him in a boxing bout, according to reports.
The streamer reportedly said he had helped promote Wizkid through “Machala” and suggested that the song contributed significantly to the singer’s visibility at the time. He subsequently challenged the Grammy-winning artist to a fight, adding another chapter to their complicated public relationship.
The proposed boxing match has attracted attention because Carter Efe has previously participated in celebrity boxing. In May 2026, he defeated singer Portable in a much-publicised bout and reportedly won a ₦50 million prize.
Carter Efe’s latest challenge also comes amid previous public exchanges involving Wizkid and his associates. The streamer has at different times expressed his admiration for Wizkid, while also making comments that have generated controversy among members of the singer’s fanbase.
“Machala,” released in 2022, was initially created as a tribute to Wizkid and became a major viral success. The song reached No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria and also appeared on the Billboard US Afrobeats chart, helping propel Carter Efe further into the entertainment spotlight.
The significance of the latest development lies largely in the possibility of another celebrity boxing spectacle involving major Nigerian entertainers. However, there is currently no indication that Wizkid has accepted Carter Efe’s challenge or that an official bout has been scheduled.
Carter Efe has since expanded his career beyond comedy and music into livestreaming, becoming one of Africa’s prominent online creators. Wizkid, meanwhile, remains one of Nigeria’s most internationally recognised Afrobeats artists.
Whether the challenge develops into an actual boxing match remains uncertain, but Carter Efe’s comments have once again placed his relationship with Wizkid at the centre of online entertainment discussions.
