The Nigerian Army has approved the strategic redeployment of senior officers to key command, operational and staff positions as part of efforts to strengthen military operations and respond more effectively to the country’s evolving security challenges.
The redeployment was approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, with the Army saying the exercise is aimed at improving operational effectiveness, strengthening leadership and placing experienced officers in critical theatres.
One of the major changes is the appointment of Major General IA Ajose as Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI. He moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations and replaces Major General AE Abubakar, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research.
Other senior officers have also been assigned to new positions covering operational commands, training institutions, logistics, civil-military affairs and strategic staff appointments. Several brigadier generals were similarly moved to various formations, including the newly established 8 Brigade and other operational commands.
The Army said the changes are important because they are intended to align its command structure with current security realities while improving coordination and leadership across different theatres.
The development comes as Nigerian security forces continue to confront terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other forms of violent crime in different parts of the country. The effectiveness of the new appointments will therefore be closely watched, particularly in areas where military operations remain critical to protecting communities.
Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the affected officers to justify the confidence placed in them through professionalism, operational innovation and commitment to duty. He also reminded them of the Army’s constitutional responsibility to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty and support civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
The Nigerian Army said the redeployments form part of its broader effort to maintain a flexible leadership and force-employment structure capable of improving operational outcomes and responding to emerging security threats.
