Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed the unexpected connection between his longtime music director, Emmanuel Abiola-Jacobs, popularly known as Manny or MD, and his decision to remain in secular music.
Burna Boy made the revelation while delivering a humorous speech at Manny’s wedding over the weekend. According to the singer, Manny had once considered leaving secular music to return to gospel music and Christianity.
Addressing guests at the ceremony, Burna Boy asked Manny whether he would have met his wife if he had followed through with his plan.
“Manny, you said you wanted to dump music and go back to Jesus and Christianity? If you had quit music, would you and your wife have met?” Burna Boy asked.
The singer jokingly suggested that Manny would instead have been in church “clapping hands and praising the sky” while missing the opportunity to meet the woman who eventually became his wife.
Burna Boy also appeared to take credit for the relationship, telling guests that the wedding might not have happened if Manny had left his band, The Outsiders.
“I give myself credit because this wedding would not have happened if you had given up music,” he said.
