Win for Wike’s Camp as Court Nullifies PDP’s Ibadan Convention

In a major legal setback for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the party’s National Convention held on November 15, 2025.

In its ruling, the court barred members of the Tanimu Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the party, declaring their emergence from the Ibadan convention invalid.

The court further held that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised National Working Committee of the PDP, pending the conduct of a fresh and valid National Convention in line with the party’s constitution and the law.

The judgment is widely seen as a significant victory for the camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whose allies have consistently challenged the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention and the leadership that emerged from it.

Political observers say the ruling deepens the internal crisis within the PDP, a party already grappling with factional disputes, defections, and leadership tussles ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With the court’s decision, uncertainty now hangs over the party’s organisational structure, as questions arise about reconciliation, compliance with the judgment, and the timeline for conducting a new national convention.

The PDP leadership is yet to issue an official response to the ruling as of the time of filing this report.
