Natasha Osawaru, the Edo State lawmaker representing Egor Constituency and wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has assumed the position of Minority Leader in the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru’s appointment was announced during Monday’s plenary as lawmakers reshuffled several principal positions in the legislature. Her emergence places her at the head of the opposition caucus in the Assembly.
The lawmaker is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), having left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May 2026. Before taking up the new position, she had served as Deputy Majority Leader of the House.
Reacting to her elevation, Osawaru described the position as a responsibility rather than a personal achievement.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said, stressing the importance of accountability, debate and standing up for citizens.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to the development of Edo State, the NDC and the people of Egor Constituency.
Her emergence comes amid wider political changes within the Edo legislature. The House has recently experienced shifts in its leadership and party structure, reflecting changing political alignments among lawmakers.
The development is significant because the Minority Leader plays a key role in coordinating opposition lawmakers, contributing to legislative debates and scrutinising policies put forward by the governing bloc.
Osawaru’s political profile has also attracted considerable public attention because of her relationship with 2Baba. However, her legislative career predates the relationship, having been elected to represent Egor Constituency in the Edo House of Assembly.
Her latest appointment gives her a more prominent role in the state legislature at a time of significant political realignment.
As Minority Leader, Osawaru will be expected to balance opposition responsibilities with her legislative duties, particularly on issues affecting her constituency and the wider development of Edo State.
