The State House has denied requesting a budget code for an alleged “fake” government agency linked to the controversy surrounding the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Investment Committee (PFIPC).
The clarification comes amid an ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives into allegations concerning the committee and the financial arrangements associated with it. The controversy has raised questions about the existence, funding and administrative status of entities reportedly connected to the PFIPC.
According to the State House, it did not submit any request for the creation of a budget code for the agency at the centre of the controversy. The position seeks to distance the Presidency from claims that it initiated formal budgetary arrangements for an institution described by critics as fictitious.
The development is important because budget codes are used within Nigeria’s public financial management system to identify government agencies, programmes and expenditure lines.
