The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four police officers captured in a viral video allegedly engaging in unprofessional conduct during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the officers were identified as ASP Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi, and Inspector Odusola Peter. They were taken into custody following widespread public outrage over the incident.
The Command stated that Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the level of culpability of each officer. The police assured Nigerians that the probe would be conducted with fairness, transparency, and accountability, adding that any officer found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s regulations.
The viral video reportedly showed the officers allegedly attempting to extort a motorist while also making remarks widely condemned as ethnically insensitive, prompting strong reactions from the public and renewed calls for professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to professional, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented policing and encouraged members of the public to continue reporting cases of police misconduct through the appropriate complaint channels.
