In what political observers have described as another major boost for the opposition movement ahead of the 2027 general elections, Natasha Idibia, wife of legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba, alongside several lawmakers from the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The development marks a significant political realignment in Edo State and further strengthens the growing momentum around the Nigeria Democratic Congress, which has continued to attract influential political figures, grassroots mobilisers and young Nigerians seeking an alternative political direction for the country.
Sources within the party disclosed that the defectors cited the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from economic hardship, insecurity and poor governance as major reasons behind their decision to join the NDC.
Natasha Idibia, popularly known in entertainment and social circles, is said to have aligned with the movement’s vision of national rebirth, youth inclusion and people-oriented governance being championed within the party.
The Edo lawmakers who dumped the PDP were also said to have pledged commitment to building a stronger opposition coalition capable of challenging the ruling establishment and promoting credible leadership across all levels of government.
Political analysts believe the latest defections further underscore the rising influence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and the growing role of civic and grassroots political organisations such as COPDEM in reshaping Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has witnessed increasing nationwide attention in recent weeks following a wave of political consultations, coalition talks and high-profile alignments involving opposition leaders, youth groups and civil society movements determined to build what they describe as a “new beginning” for Nigeria.
