Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has completed the coordination and submission of the party’s candidates for various elective positions across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso led the process in collaboration with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and candidates from across the region. The exercise was concluded on Thursday, August 20, with the formal presentation of the candidates’ names to NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
The former Kano State governor described the development as an important milestone in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections. He thanked the party leadership and candidates for their cooperation throughout the process.
“This is more than the completion of a submission process; it is another decisive step towards building a formidable NDC team capable of competing strongly at every level,” Kwankwaso said.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the electoral contest, describing the task ahead as promising.
The submission is significant because the northern region accounts for 19 states, making it a crucial area for any political organisation seeking nationwide electoral relevance. By coordinating candidates across the region, the NDC is signalling its intention to establish a broad political structure ahead of 2027.
The affected states include Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi and Kwara, alongside the FCT.
Kwankwaso’s latest move comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with candidate selection, grassroots mobilisation and coalition-building increasingly dominating political discussions.
The NDC has positioned Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate. The party will now face the challenge of maintaining internal cohesion and converting its growing political organisation into electoral support when Nigerians go to the polls.
