A prominent Nigerian commentator on X, Nefertiti (@firstladyship), has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the state of the economy, accusing his administration of worsening inflation, hunger and hardship since taking office.
In a strongly worded post, Nefertiti criticized the President’s decision to announce the removal of fuel subsidy on his first day in office and questioned the administration’s handling of the economic consequences that followed.
She also accused the government of presiding over a sharp depreciation of the naira, rising electricity costs and excessive borrowing, while alleging widespread corruption under the current administration.
“Now he’s talking cheap fuel, as if he was sworn in yesterday. As if he means anything he says,” she wrote, expressing scepticism over recent promises and policies aimed at reducing the cost of energy and transportation.
The commentator further criticised the pace of the Federal Government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) programme, arguing that Nigerians were still waiting to feel its promised benefits.
Drawing comparisons with previous administrations, Nefertiti noted that former governments had maintained subsidy regimes or introduced social intervention programmes such as NAPEP, SURE-P and NSIP to cushion economic hardship.
