“You Will Regret Inaction,” U.S. Missionary Warns Tinubu as Outrage Grows Over Jos Killings

An American missionary, William Barbir, has issued a strongly worded warning to Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the latest wave of violence in Jos, declaring that continued inaction over the killings of Christians could have grave consequences.
Barbir, reacting to reports of deadly attacks in communities within Plateau State, alleged that the pattern of violence has reached a level that can no longer be ignored. He argued that the scale and persistence of the attacks point to what he described as systematic persecution, insisting that global attention is now firmly fixed on Nigeria.
The remarks come in the aftermath of renewed bloodshed in parts of Jos, where several lives were reportedly lost and many others injured in yet another security breakdown. The incident has reignited longstanding concerns over ethno-religious violence and the recurring failure to protect vulnerable communities in the region.
Addressing the Nigerian leadership, Barbir warned that history would judge harshly any government perceived to have failed in its primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property. He stressed that moral and political accountability cannot be deferred, urging immediate and decisive action to halt the violence.
Security analysts, however, caution against simplifying the crisis into a single narrative, noting that conflicts in Plateau State often involve a complex mix of communal, ethnic, land-use, and religious tensions. While acknowledging the severity of the killings, they emphasize the need for careful investigation and balanced reporting to avoid inflaming tensions further.
The situation in Jos remains tense, with residents calling for increased security presence and swift intervention by federal authorities. As pressure mounts, expectations are rising on the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to respond with concrete measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing further loss of life.
The latest developments have once again brought Nigeria’s internal security challenges into sharp focus, with both domestic and international voices demanding urgent and sustained action.
