Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has welcomed the return of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to what he described as their shared political camp, saying the governor had recognized the need for unity after months of political disagreements.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike said Fubara had “realized his mistake” and rejoined the Rainbow Coalition, a multi-party political alliance that supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
The minister described the development as a positive step toward restoring political stability in Rivers State, expressing optimism that renewed cooperation among political stakeholders would foster peace, strengthen governance and accelerate development across the state.
Wike said reconciliation and collective political action were essential to advancing the interests of Rivers people, emphasizing that unity should take precedence over prolonged political disputes.
The latest development follows Governor Fubara’s public endorsement of the Rainbow Coalition during a political gathering in Port Harcourt on July 22, where he also threw his support behind Kingsley Chinda as a preferred successor in the state’s 2027 governorship race.
Fubara urged his supporters to embrace reconciliation and work together under the coalition, describing the move as necessary for sustaining peace and promoting development in Rivers State.
The endorsement is widely seen as a significant turning point in the political relationship between Wike and Fubara, whose alliance deteriorated shortly after Fubara assumed office as governor in 2023.
