Tinubu Highlights Economic Gains, Urges Party Unity at APC National Convention

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday delivered a keynote address at the 8th National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing the party’s founding vision, economic achievements, and the need for sustained unity ahead of future political contests.

Addressing delegates, party leaders, and stakeholders, the president reflected on the origins of the APC, noting that the party was formed out of a shared commitment to national renewal. “Thirteen years ago, we dared to dream differently and to act boldly… to save our country from the economic doldrums into which the then-ruling party had plunged it,” he said.

Tinubu stressed that the party’s success has been driven by unity rather than sheer size or numbers. He cautioned members against internal divisions, warning that political parties often fail not only through electoral defeats but also when personal ambitions overshadow collective goals. “We must guard against tendencies where ego overrides ideology or ambition replaces discipline,” he stated.

The president also used the platform to highlight key economic indicators under his administration. According to him, Nigeria has strengthened its foreign exchange buffers to withstand external shocks, while the stock market has shown strong performance with companies reporting significant profits.

He further noted that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is on an upward trajectory, supported by consecutive trade surpluses and sustained economic activity. Tinubu added that inflation has declined for eight consecutive months to 14.45%, with food prices gradually easing and business confidence improving.

The APC convention, described as Africa’s largest political gathering, served as a platform for the ruling party to consolidate support, review progress, and project its readiness for future electoral challenges, including the 2027 general elections.
