SGF Akume Condemns Killing of Benue MACBAN Chairman

George Akume has condemned the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Risku Mohammed, and his associate.

In a statement, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation described the killings as tragic and unacceptable, expressing condolences to the families of the victims, the leadership of MACBAN, and all those affected by the incident.

Akume called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the attack, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He emphasized that acts of violence undermine peace, security, and national unity, urging residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals that could escalate tensions in Benue State and neighbouring communities.

The SGF reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or occupational background, while stressing the importance of dialogue and lawful conflict resolution.

The killing of the Benue MACBAN chairman has heightened concerns over security in the state, which has experienced recurring clashes involving armed groups, farming communities, and herders in recent years.

Security agencies are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack, while community leaders have appealed for restraint and cooperation with law enforcement authorities.

Akume urged all stakeholders—including traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, and civil society organizations—to work together in promoting peace and preventing further violence, noting that lasting stability can only be achieved through justice, dialogue, and respect for the rule of law.
