National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has expressed confidence that the votes of Nigerians will determine the outcome of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the will of the people will prevail over any form of intimidation or electoral manipulation.
Speaking at a political gathering, Dickson emphasized the importance of protecting Nigeria’s democratic process, urging citizens to remain committed to peaceful participation and to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
According to the former Bayelsa State governor, democracy can only thrive when elections are conducted freely, fairly and transparently, with every valid vote counted and accurately reflected in the final results.
He maintained that no individual or group should be allowed to undermine the electoral process through intimidation, coercion or any action capable of subverting the will of the electorate.
Dickson called on Nigerians to remain vigilant throughout the electoral cycle, stressing that active civic participation and public oversight are essential to safeguarding the integrity of elections.
The NDC leader also appealed to political parties, candidates and supporters to embrace issue-based campaigns and avoid inflammatory rhetoric that could threaten national peace and stability.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant institutions to continue strengthening electoral processes and ensuring that all eligible voters are given the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
According to Dickson, credible elections remain the foundation of democratic governance and are critical to sustaining public confidence in Nigeria’s political institutions.
His remarks come as political parties continue consultations, coalition-building and organizational restructuring ahead of the 2027 general elections, which are expected to be among the most closely contested in the country’s history.
Political analysts note that confidence in the electoral process has become a central theme in Nigeria’s political discourse, with both ruling and opposition parties emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability and adherence to electoral laws.
They argue that public trust in democratic institutions depends largely on the ability of electoral authorities to conduct impartial elections and ensure that results genuinely reflect the choices made by voters.

Dickson reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to democratic principles, stating that the party would continue to mobilize supporters peacefully while advocating reforms aimed at protecting the sanctity of the ballot.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians would ultimately decide the country’s political future through their votes, insisting that democratic legitimacy can only be secured when the expressed will of the people is respected.
